after endless hours of prom dress and baby clothing sewing... i haven't sewn anything for a month. how strange. I'm at an academic camp studying Shakespeare. it's pretty awesome. sewing ruled my life until a few weeks ago... and now Shakespeare demands my complete attention. anyways, just wanted to say 'hi' because i haven't made an appearance on this blog for a while. anywhoooooooooo, bye now.

for my lovely sister who is expecting in late may. i made two fabulous diaper bags (1 for him, 1 for her).
i made lots of accesories for the bags and a few cute little outfits. now, i'm working on two prom dresses.
i want to make two and decide which one i prefer. one short and sassy, one long and elegant. one orange,
one light blue. prom is friday the 13th... so time is certainly RUNNING (oh, been busy with track too!) out
of time :/ yikes. MAJOR PANIC ATTACK. okay, well... it is late (1:50 am) and i'm kinda tired. although i'm
sort of buzzed from the delicious chocolate cupcakes i ate after dinner (while watching the 1.5 GLEE
special!). oisdfhasidhfaksdjhfjkasdhfkajsd going to bed? got to get up and sew sew sew. these dresses

H A P P Y N E W Y E A R!!!

(WOW, 2010 went by REALLY quickly, right?)

Tonight I am going to a dressy New Years party. Naturally, I made the outfit I will be wearing to the party. I'm wearing a puffy black/gray/white ruffled/layered skirt (photos soon!), and yesterday I sewed myself a CUTE little clutch to match:

The skirt looks a lot like the clutch (layers, colors) and I'm in love with the whole look. Glam.

I don't have a new years resolution yet... I should probably get on that... I do know that this year (2011) is going to ChAnGe my life, for the better. I can't wait.

I'll post about the x-mas gift I made for my secret Santa soon...

Almost CHriStMAS time (okay, 21 days 'till the big day!)!! I'm brain storming right now... trying to decide what to make for my secret santa this year. Last year I was the secret santa to my dad, and I made him the best gift set EVER! A sock monkey inspired casual wear outfit.

I've been scrolling through the "How about Orange" , looking through her "DIY" section.

SO MANY CLEVER IDEAS! :) Any gift ideas?

Yesterday my mom and I decorated our kitchen table with silver trees that we made. It looks so pretty. We won't be getting our tree until mid-December, so that it won't become too dried out.

Six and a half years ago my grandmother passed away. She left behind a box filled with sewing related tools, fabric, yarn, buttons... you get the picture. Most of the fabric was not necessarily my cup of tea, but I, naturally, fell for the buttons and found the sewing tools (ancient scissors, measuring tapes, rulers) intriguing. Included with the previously listed, there was also a small, yellow, cardboard box with the words "Island Bag", "Walnut Handles", "Easy to make" , written in bold lettering on the front. Basically, this five dollar kit included easy to follow directions and two satin finished walnut handles. I gave the yellow box a home on a shelf in my sewing room and forgot about it until this past weekend. On Halloween I pulled out the 50's looking kit and got to work, fashioning my new handbag. I wonder now, what type of fabric would my grandmother have chosen? Why had she bought this funny little kit? Also, how old is the kit? The bag turned out super cute, and I hope to carve some of my own handles in the future.

TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY!! WOOT!!

This morning I enjoyed the wonderful fruit salad, smoothie my mom made and a fresh scone she bought at a local bakery this morning. Yum! During this scrumptious breakfast my little sister inched my presents towards me. Every two minutes she would inche them closer to me - got the hint M. you want my to open them, okay! The first present was wrapped in hues of green and blue striped wrapping paper. Inside was a book my Nina Garcia (Project Runway judge), it's called:

"Nina Garcia's Look Book -

what to wear for every occasion"

Fabulous book! On to the next item! Also wrapped in that striped paper was a fat book... with Audrey Hepburn's face on the cover. She is in her atire/character for Breakfast at Tiffany's. The book is titled:

"A Year in Fashion" and has a photo and quote for every day of the year, snazzy!!

The last fashion book I received was wrapped in yellow tissue paper. On top of this gift was a darling card from my mom. The fantastic card was created by the talented (talented is an understatement) Patiance Brewster. I adore her artwork and her humor!! My dad also gave me a card from Patiance, here are the two cards:

ANYWAYS! So, the other book I got is a dictionary of fashion designers - cool or WHAT?!

It is called: "The Thames & Hudson Dictionary of Fashion and Fashion Designers".

also, my younger sister gave me a cute card with ''i love you'' written in fifty different languages. sweet!

A huge thank you to my loving family and all of my friends who have spammed my inbox with sweet birthday wishes. THANK YOU!!

Well... a few more minutes and I'm a new age................mhhhhhhhh.

i can ride my bike with no handle bars

so, i have begun drawing a charcoal drawing of a bicycle every few times a week. hopefully this repetition will help be become a stronger (lets pray!) drawer and artist. if I'm going to an art school, I'm going to need to have some experience in drawing. this will hopefully help me! doing the exercise reminds me of the catchy song "Handelbars" by the Flobots. (i did not draw this, it is from their music video!!)

SO! Here are my first three drawings........lets just say its a beginning, okay? :) I placed about six unused bikes around our property and go outside and draw. its actually fun and relaxing! stay tuned for more updates!

because it began back in spring in Greece (HOT!!!).... i love the summer month best.

YES! Project Runway has begun again - already 3 weeks into the new season. I just saw this very funny list on the NPR news website, giving 8 tips to get kicked off PR quicker:

Are you stranded on Project Runway with no chance to get away? Do you find yourself coming in second-to-last on Lifetime's flagging reality franchise, desperately wishing you could find a way to lose already so you could just go home? Fortunately, there are some very reliable ways to end your run almost immediately.

1. Ignore Tim Gunn. Did Tim Gunn tell you to use fewer ruffles? MORE RUFFLES! Did he tell you the belt was a little much? MAKE IT BIGGER! What does that guy know, anyway? He doesn't even wear dresses.

2. Show as much of the model's behind as possible. Never mind what fancypants magazine editor Anne Slowey famously told one designer about a skating costume that exposed large swaths of the model's rear end: there is no such thing as showing "entirely too much tootie." The more tootie, the better.

3. When in doubt, glue more stuff on that puppy. Bows, sequins, stuffed animals, canceled checks, discarded printer cartridges — bring it on! More, more!

4. Ignore the rules of the challenge. You know who follows rules? Rule-followers, that's who. Have the courage to take on a difficult challenge and then decide to ignore it entirely. Have the strength of character to say, "You know what? I know you wanted me to make a blue dress, but that is simply not within my aesthetic, so I have decided to make this white dress on the theory that in the future, aliens will see white the way we now see blue. Don't blame me if you can't get with my vision."

5. Remember: straight seams are for nerds. What's important is that you are interesting and inventive. So a hem hangs down! So a seam is puckering! What is this, Project Well-Made Clothes? No. No, it isn't.

6. Make clothes that do not allow normal functioning. If models wanted to sit down, they'd be IT professionals, wouldn't they? If they wanted to walk all over the place, they'd be ... whatever, they'd be doing that. Let's not even get into eating. Models are happy to just stand in one place with one hand on one hip, so really, feel free to design that dress that's actually a sheet-metal cone. Position that paper streamer so that moving slightly will result in an indecent exposure citation.

Kannie Yu LaPack/Lifetime Entertainment Services Judge Michael Kors is just one of the hazards into which a Project Runway contestant might tumble.

7. Imagine someone uninterested in fashion and filled with despair, and design for that person. The plain blouse has its fans, you know. So does the nondescript pair of navy pants. What did bust darts ever do to you anyway? When did "matronly" become a bad word? Do you have something against matrons? They're not all bad.

8. Make a dress appropriate for a [blank] [something] at a [whatever]. You want to aim for a look that will allow Michael Kors to combine some of his favorite words of distress into a single put-down. On last night's episode, it was, "She looks like a transvestite flamenco dancer at a funeral." (I would just like to say that in an effort to make sure I quoted this exactly, I Googled the phrase "Michael Kors tranvestite funeral." I dearly hope I am the first. And the last.)

ummmmmmmmmmmm.... so it is AUGUST 1st. so I had to post something on the first day of one of the best months. Words that describe August for me: Peaches, beginning of soccer season!, swimming, tomato soup, hot, sweat, mojitos, summer is almost over (SAD ONE!!!), summer reading, skirts, bike rides, plays, corn (even if I'm kinda allergic to it), haircuts, TIME TO SEW. Okay, now go and check out this pretty fantastic (and addicting) website! FUN! Happy August, I don't know why, but a new month always seems like a new year for me... well kind of....just a little, not that much, tiny tiny feeling :P tata!

P A P E R C O S T U M E T I M E

Hello from Athens, Greece! So, as you know I am here for 5 weeks, taking a college class. But, its not really a 'sit down and lecture' type of class. Its an art/theatre class and we are creating small pieces/projects each week. Today we shot a silent dance/movement/artsy short movie that will be projected on a giant wall near our apt.

(will look just like this but with a different image!)

R. and I made the costumes for the 'movie' out of found objects around the city. Such as posters advertising protest, police tape and mesh material. They turned out fantastic!! Here are the photos of the awesome costumes worn by the character. 

There are the funky costumes! I'll describe a few details for each outfit:

1. me in the huge ORANGE bee dress - its held up at the top with rope, and the hem is done with glue!

2. e. is wearing the paper ruffle skirt, made from found posters around the city - and an awesome spray painted shirt!

3. r. (also made costumes!) is wearing a spray painted black shirt and cheap (5 euro!!) pants. we made a paper vest for him, but is ripped to shreds. 

4. n. is wearing a 5 euro dress that we spray painted and wrapped in police tape!

5. p. is wearing a spray painted white shirt (5 euro again!!) which was spray painted by r. - the pattern is the greek flag!

6. s. is wearing a mesh netting material that we cut from the side of a building. the caging on the skirt is made from blue newspaper cords (to bind a stack of newspapers together). the top of the skirt is braided (last minute decision) and the shawl thing around her shoulders is a poster folded into the fan like shape. the bracelet it folded brochures as well as the head piece.

7. c. wears a black dress and shawl (holds rosary) - representing the elderly people in Greece. 

WELL THAT iS EVERYONE! The costumes looked great for the filming and photo shoot.

hey ho - i'm currently in Europe working on a five week long art project. today we began working on the costumes for a short movie. this is the fabulous skirt that R and i snapped together this morning. we took political posters from around athens and folded them into fan shapes. i love how it came out. lovely. i'll post the video of the skirt and other costumes in use soon. ciao for now :)

Happy May! I leave for Europe really soon - just got to plow through a final exam... and two track meets... ahhhh! I love love love shoes, completely obsessed with them from the minute I was born :) When I saw this tutorial from Grosgrain Fabulous I was quite excited.

Make an old pair of flats cute and perky again... using spray paint! I'll be trying this soon - maybe in July when things slow down a bit and I've got a freezer full of juicy ripe strawberries! xoxo

I absolutely adore this time of year. The weather is nice, the flowers are blooming and everything feels ALIVE! I love spring... and summer... and early autumn. I just love flowers, and it so happens that in my favorite seasons flowers grow... haha :) I took these photos this weekend... flowers flowers flowers!

So! What is new with me? Okay... I'm leaving for Europe in two weeks.

I'm extremely excited, I've never been to Europe before! This means there will be some summer shopping happening this Saturday (oh! May 1st - how lovely). I'm going to Forever 21 to find cool clothes for a nice price, and H&M for some stylish clothes for an okay price. I like a bargain. Yes I do. I also like J.Crew... nice clothes - prices can be a bit high though. And just for fun I want to take a peek at the new i-Pad at the fun Apple store... yeah!

I've been sewing a cute Vogue business suit skirt and jacket - but have been too busy to complete it with school work etc. I'm still loving my ROCKIN' bedroom - LOVE the colors!!!!
More to come, I'm sure... got to get packing.... aaaah!! :)

Glad my blog is working again. I was quite sad knowing I could not post my artsy ideas to this blog that well.......... nobody reads except for my... I'm in love with apartment therapy, sucked up some great creative ideas from their site. Well, here is a look at some jumbled ideas of mine and other sources for my bedroom.

Here is an idea for my bedroom walls. Yellow, White, Pink, & Gray bed... looks cool!

I want to make something like this for my wall. Chalkboard, Cork Board, and cool MAP details... nice wall piece.

I also like this great painting. I think I can probably paint something like that..... we'll see.:P

I have a VERY boring white lamp shade in my room, maybe I'll print something like this on it...

We just ordered this FANTASTIC Ikea hanging lamp... tres chic!!

I love it.

These pillow/wall hangings are awesome, no?

I'm really digging the Amy Butler fabric, pretty neat. Good for curtains and pillows... and bean bags!!

Kelly Wearstler has such an unusual intriguing eye towards interior design. I'm thinking about painting my room, and I've been looking through some of her work. Tres chic.

I'm loving this polk-dot wall handing I found at apt. therapy. I think it's just a huge piece of fabric... looks easy to make though.

I want to make a few bean bag chairs for my room as well...

What colors for my room? Bright Yellow, Grey, Hot Pink, White for ceiling,

(green and turquoise around window)... something like that :)

Good Morning! Happy Valentine's Day!

For xoxo day, I made my mom a fun, colorful (oddly shaped) bagShe is an artist, and she created a logo for her art - the MoonchickSo, I decided to print the Moonchick on a piece of
cloth... which turned into a bag. I sewed tulle onto the dress to add some spunk!
The other side of the bag... didn't spend as much time on the peace sign...The awesome card she gave me... looks like fun to make!Of course, I gave out all of the Valentine's Cards I made The Moonchick Bag was a BIG hit. My mom LOVED it :)

Meet Ava, the six year old beauty. She is so adorable and is a great model too!

Yesterday, I photographed her modeling the outfit I made for the Lil' Blue Boo / Dharma Trading Design Challenge. We had a lot of fun!

I designed this whole outfit, basing the look of the skirt on Lil' Blue Boo's Recycled T-shirt Skirt or Skort . I love how five different patters in the skirt work so well together.

I printed the three dollies on the pink shirt using a freezer paper stencil

The faux fur vest is accented with fabric from the skirt

Ava brought along her lovely leopard print boots. Too cute!

This outfit was a blast to make! Thank you Ava for being such

Last year (2008) a huge ice storm hit our state (and the surrounding states), destroying trees & houses, blocking roads and cutting off the power to THOUSANDS of houses for two + weeks. That morning, after the storm, the world was so beautiful. The ice storm had left glittering ice crystals everywhere, and it shown... perfect for a photo shoot - no? So, I dressed my sister up in some dreamy white clothes and gave her some fierce makeup. It was very fun...... and cold! She is so pretty in these pictures! Anyone need a model? Valentines Day is 14 days away, time to make the heartfelt cards

that are enjoyed for about ten minutes... and then get stashed away with all of the other

cards and nik-naks... anyways! Lets get crackin'!

Go from this:

To this (these):

What you will need:

scissors, X-acto knife, iron, cutting board, freezer paper, paper stock, colored markers, cut out hearts from pretty paper

1. With the shiny side down of the freezer paper, cut out a medium sized heart - or a size that will fit on your card. Draw around the boarder of the heart with a colored marker.

In the above photo you can see that I have drawn 'cut marks'. This is where you cut. Do not brake the heart, this skinny boarder is your heart pattern. Your heart should now look like this:

Now, take your paper and your heart boarder. Turn on the iron (i used the cotton setting)

and place your heart on your paper. Slide the iron across the paper a few times... make sure the heart is sticking... if it is not - continue to iron. Don't iron too much though... because after all you are ironing paper!

Repeat this process a few times, using different colors and sizes of the heart.

You can also glue funky printed hearts onto your card... pretty neat :)

Oh! and you can use your cut out hearts to make a fun heart garland... just sew the hearts together down the spine.

Friday we went to the

It was SO worth it.

We saw the exhibit - The Rare Bird of Fashion: The Irreverent Iris Apfel

(gotta love those glasses)

What an amazing women! Iris is quite the stylist.

I absolutely adored the show... so much so that when the

security guards averted their eyes I quickly snapped some (fuzzy) photos.

These are just a FEW of her amazing clothes. We ended up buying

the museum book which had detailed photos of each outfit... but sneaking

behind the guards backs was.... yes.... just a little bit fun.

At the beginning of the exhibit, there was a women guard who looked pretty friendly... she was chatting away with strangers. I was looking at an outfit when I hear:

"I loooooooove your boots!"

I turn and there she is, the friendly guard with the CrAzY hair :)

She continued:

"After looking at them for a while... I realized, I have the same boots! I never realized how great they looked until I saw them on someone else... aren't they super comfy?"

To which I responded.

"Oh yes! and quite warm!"

Crazy hair guard: "I totally agree... love them"

Me: "Don't you just love the outside zipper?"

We continued with this fun girly talk and I noticed that two or three other women

had come around us and began examining my classy (up to the knee) black/deep brown boots.

So nice to meet friendly people.

Today I've been SEWING up a storm. I made a whole outfit (pictures to come, just need my adorable model to pose for a few snaps) for the Lil Blue Boo Challenge and then after dinner I embroidered two little objects, inspired by the Sew Somerset magazine we purchased the other day. They are sooooo cute and I think I'll make some sort of cloth book to sew them into.

All day I've been listening to the book The Help. Amazing writing, amazing story, amazing voices. Highly recommended.

HAPPY (almost) NEW YEAR!

On Tuesday I went and picked up my serger!

It works pretty good, still getting the hang of the threading

system... four spools of thread, two needles, ah!

I've been quite interested in sewing books lately.

I fold a piece of paper to form a book, then sew it together using zig-zag.

It looks really cool and is easy to make.

I can't believe I forgot to mention two amazing Christmas gifts I received in my stocking. FASHION related too. Geez.

1. I got three colorful bags of.... BUTTONS!

2. A subscription to VOGUE magazine! YES!

My bookshelves with color coded fabric. Looks like candy, no?

Going to see It's Complicated tonight. Good way to ring in the new year :)

This is a ''art'' piece I made a year ago. I had my dad cut out four square pieces of wood.

Then I painted the wood white and proceeded to paint large polk-dots on each square.

Simple. They add a lot to my yellow wall :) Oh, and to the right is my Audrey Hepburn poster.

The Dinner

On Christmas we covered our LARGE table with brown paper. We placed each setting with a flowered bag which contained colored crayons and homemade play dough. It was so much fun to draw on the table, kept everyone entertained and relaxed.

I saw THIS tutorial on Made and decided that would be super pretty. So my dad VERY KINDLY offered to cut these stunning snowflakes out. We hung them above the kitchen table, it was magical. Beautiful. Glam.

This year I was my Dad's secret Santa. So... what to make for men? Yeah, tough. I went for a themed pajama set. It turned out so super cute and he LOVED it! Pictures:"No Monkey Business" tee-shirt was bought on etsy through ClothMoth.I bought the monkey flannel from Fabric.com, see this post.These super cute sock monkey slipper were purchased at Uncommon goods.

I also sewed my younger sister PJ pants, my grandfather PJ pants (sorry-did not get a good picture), my two older sisters coasters and my mommy a color coded pencil case. I sewed myself a pretty rockin' x-mas dress, accessorized with a handmade bow/flower. Pictures:

Phew, I've pretty much finished sewing all of my x-mas gifts :) I'd LOVE to share some pictures, but sadly I'll have to keep a secret until Frid ay... I'll give you a glimpse of the fabric though :) I bought this flannel at fabric.com for a pretty good price. There was free shipping on orders $35 +, which I qualified for :P. Yup, this morning I was sewing Christmas presents when all of a sudden my sewing machine became jammed and stopped going. I looked down at the needle and realized I had just sewed right through my finger... ow!! It killed after a few seconds and bled EVERYWHERE!!! Still hurts, haha... oh well, guess I'm a ''real'' seamstress now :)

I used How About Orange's fantastic tutorial to make homemade x-mas gift bows last night:

This is me when I was younger (8 years old?) I had just made a pillow with an elephant on it for Santa. I made the PJ's too :)
Go and make the bows!! They are sUpEr easy and are funky and cheap!
I'm making this skirt now, shades of black, gray and white.

A month ago I made this funky lamp shade. Basically what I did was string together pieces of colored polar fleece and then I tied the ''pom-poms'' to the top of a light stand. I need to use a dim light bulb, or else the fabric will over heat and begin burning... so it does not give off ''study'' light but it does give a nice ''mood'' glow.

A few bags I made last year - new designs in the works!!

THANKSGIVING WREATH

Hope all of you readers (whoever you may be...) had an awesome Thanksgiving. I nearly went the the emergency room with my sister, on TG because her ribs hurt so bad from falling down a flight of stairs. And relatives hugging her did not help. Anyways... my table center piece was a huge hit, everyone loved it. Which reminds me, I never posted photos of the completed piece, sillyyyy me. So here you go: FINISHED RESULT!! (only we inserted candles into the smaller pumpkins!)

My mini sparkle wreath tutorial:
What you need:
a BuNcH of acorns
a straw wreath
a glue gun
a oven
fun
Go outside and collect a bunch of acorns (pop the little caps off
while you work, if you want your wreath to look like mine).
Preheat oven to 350F.
Give the acorns a quick water bath and then transfer them to a
cooking tray/pan.
(before)
Pop the acorns into the oven for about 15. mins.
Mix them around and then stick them back in the oven for about 8 more mins.
WHY BAKE THE ACORNS? (you may ask) because little insects
love to live inside of acorns (like mites, ewww) and you certainly
do not want BUG INFESTED ACORNS!! yuck!!
This process also helps to dry your acorns.
(after)
Take your wreath and start hot gluing the acorns to it,
in a circular formation.

Once that has dried, go outside and spray paint the wreath any
color you like. I sprayed it GOLD for Thanksgiving. I'm
doing SILVER for Christmas. Feel free to try any color!

To make the pumpkins:
Buy pumpkins, spray paint them gold.
Take the smaller pumpkins and drill little holes into them
and insert candle. Lovely!

And one/two more things! I saw this tutorial today - acorn wreath - perfect for Thanksgiving, no? I've already collected all of my acorns and will purchase my wreath tonight. I'm thinking of using the wreath for the Thanksgiving table with candles inside, then for x-mas I'll doll it up for our Christmas wreath... cool??

Yesterday I sewed ALL day in my newly painted sewing room. I'm creating a lot of inventory to sell this winter. So happy to be back doing one of my favorite things ever. Have a jolly Monday afternoon :)

This past week I remained busy at a glass & geometry camp creating glass candle holders, glass game boards, glass boxes - etc. Working with sharp glass was slightly painful... I think we probably went through about 1000 boxes of band-aids. No pain - No Gain... right? The camp was formed around geometry - we were learning & using geometry in the ''real'' world, instead of sweating over a piece of paper and watching steam spill from our ears... I hear kids hate geometry (that's my point). It was pretty hard to cut the glass in a straight line. I had fun soldering the stained glass. I also loved making paper models and these neat kaleidoscope toys that twist. Everyone at the camp had a great time - we played capture the flag four to five times a day :P

Fashion week in NYC has come to a close. For me some of the spring 2010 fashions were quite inspirational - filled with new colors, odd shapes and new uses for objects.

A new fashion movie! Yippe! I have not seen The September Issue YET - but I will... soon. It looks like a ''fun'' movie, you know? Kind of like the REAL Devil Wears Prada... :)
Also there is the new Coco Chanel film, 'Coco Before Chanel' - can't wait to see that fashion filled film as well.I'll post some of MY work soon.

This summer we repainted my sewing room. It is now a fierce turquoise and a brilliant pear/green color, white trim to match. It looks awesome and my dad built tons of new shelving.
I will post some of MY projects soon - once the room is finished.

NYC was a real thrill, an adventure a wonderful experience... and I now know that I am officially in love with the city, and will one day live in the big apple. To complete my NYC journey, I would like to share a few more pictures. WOW! So many things have happened here in the city since my last post!

Saturday: Went to the Union Square Farmers Market. Went to a birthday party for a woemn from Switzerland. Met interesting people.

Sunday: Went for a run over the Brooklyn Bridge. Went to the movies and saw: Whatever Works, the new film by Woody Allen. I then window shopped and found this great thrift store where I bought a pair of Michael Kors pants for $6 bucks! Made a lovely raw meal for dinner.

Monday: Back at FIT where I was graded on my halter top. I got an A-... pretty good!! Bought scripts for my acting class at The Drama Bookshop. Went for run over the Brooklyn Bridge.

Tuesday: FIT: Made our patterns for a simple skirt. Cut out the pattern on muslin and began sewing. Went for a run across the Brooklyn Bridge. A lovely lady came over for dinner. She used to write for a fashion/beauty magazine. She gave me tips and offered to look into getting me an internship with a designer!

Wednesday: Finished sewing the simple skirt. Graded: B+... okay. Made the pattern for the swing skirt. Drawing Class: went to the FIT museum and sketched dresses from the exhibit. ISABEL TOLEDO was the current show! She designed Michelle Obama's inauguration dress :)

Went for run over the Brooklyn Bridge.

Thursday: Made two patterns for the top of a dress. Finished our sketches of our dresses that we want to make for ourselves. Got our drawing class assignment: Decide on a person you would like to design for. Lets say it's Audrey Hepburn, just say. So you would take her style (50's dresses) and redesign her style to keep her flair but make it modern. Pretty neat. After classes a girl who I eat lunch with walked with me to MOOD FABRIC STORE!!! THINK PROJECT RUNWAY!!! :) :) It was very cool. Went out to Greenwich Village and ate thin, thin crust pizza.

Friday: Went to the Chelsea Market where there was a Elie Tahari Warehouse Sale. Nothing over $49.00! I bought a cashmere sweater that was $500 but was about $29. I also got a lovely men's casual/dressy jacket for me dad :) Went out to the Cloisters and imagined myself in Europe. Rode the bus over to the MET and looked at Michelangelo's first painting. Went to dinner at this great restaurant called Henry's End.

Saturday: Will go to the farmers market again, will buy fabric for dress! Exciting!

It is SO HOT RIGHT NOW!!! SO HUMID A GROSS!! but i sure love summer :)

YES! I've been going to class everyday on the 7th Av!
Remind you of Project Runway?What have I been making in Pattern Making Class?
First we began out by making a simple shirt.

So far I've enjoyed three busy days of class at FIT. The campus is right on 7th Ave. and near the subway, perfect location.
The first class that I am taking is Pattern Making and Sewing from 9:30am to 12:30.
The teacher has an extremely strong Spanish accent, so it can be terribly challenging to try and deceiver her speedy gonzales words. The first two days we made a pattern for a simply shirt, only the right side of the shirt though. There was so much measuring and pinning involved... very tricky. Today we began making a simple... (don't worry Professor will find a way to make it complicated :)) halter top with a tie. The afternoon drawing class has been wonderful. I've learned so much about proportions and the figure. The professor is so helpful and gentle but at the same time strong. Great mix. Yesterday we drew the face, today we drew the figure with a bathing suit. Tomorrow we are drawing couture outfits on the body... exciting!

On Friday I have the day of... any ideas as to what I should go do/see in the big apple?

Yesterday I arrived in New York City. I took the Fung-Wah bus, which is quite the... adventure.
A women, who happened to be sitting in front of me on the bus (Spanish/Very Pregnant) walked up to the driver and began chatting with him. Which then turned into arguing and then she forced her cell phone in his face (he was driving) and demanded he talk to her boyfriend. Turns out she wanted to get off the bus in CT and her boyfriend would pick her up. Finally the driver agreed to drop her off. The ladies BF jumped onto the bus and began screaming swears at the driver... shall not repeat :P Anyways, that was quite the drama.

This morning M and I walked down to a lovely little fruit/veggie stand on Atlantic Ave. and bought some produce for our dinner. I wore lovely wedge heels (BAD IDEA) which led to TERRIBLE blisters. OW! Tomorrow I'm going to run over the Brooklyn Bridge and back, what a lovely run, eh?

This afternoon E and I took the subway to 28th St. and joined the sea of FIT Summer Live Teens. The line to get into the building stretched outside and there were many teens looking spiffy in their 'fashionable outfits'. The orientation was pretty boring... just a bunch of slides describing the 'rules' around the campus -"Don't faint from anxiety on opening day... or vomit..." okay...
Then right when the presentation ended there was a M=A=D dash to the next floor to get in line for our mandatory ID passes... wowzers... I stood in line for a good hour and a 1/2 to get a pass... well I heard many stories... which was nice. In fact one girl flew from MEXICO for the classes. Pretty neat. Oh! and we are supposed to refer to our teachers as Professors :P eeek.

Tomorrow is my first day of classes... pretty exciting. I'll give you the scoop in full detail... once I've lived it :)

Bonjour Fashion Lovers,

Three times a week I receive a fashion filled newsletter (delivered to my inbox) from elle.com.

I love reading the Elle newsletter because I

can instantly be updated on the current trends the world is discovering and fantastic photos from recent runway shows.

I also love reading sewing/fashion blogs such as Made. These creative bloggers share their ideas and projects they are working on... oh! a

nd they provide awesome tutorials too.

As I previously stated in my last blog entry... I'm kinda falling in love with navy blue. Although my true favorite color shall always be saffron. Anyways I'm also 'kinda/really' falling in love with the popular new look... drum roll please! The jumpsuit shorts!

The shorts are so fantastic. You could wear them during the day... and then... when the stars come out you simply slip into a pair of heels... so versatile.

Also, I'm loving the sailor anchor... which then leads into sailor pants (rows and rows of lovely buttons!) which then leads into navy blue - haha!
